The 19th annual Holiday Memorial Ravenswood Cemetery Luminaria on Saturday, December 15, in which departed loved ones were remembered, was again a huge success.
A special “glowing” memorial was for the children and adults of the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. A sign designed and drawn by Kaylee Icenhower and Breanna Cather was placed in the cemetery and had 26 “angel” luminaria bags formed in a heart around the sign.
This yearly event was made possible with the help of Dave Fletcher and Steve Cogar and Boy Scout Troop 43, Jason Miihlbach and the Ravenswood Middle and Ravenswood High School FFA, and Allen and Holly Palmer’s youth group from the First Baptist Church. The dedication of these young boys and girls really made a big impression on us, and the community should be proud of them.
Special “thanks” to Valley Inc. for the sand, Brett McCoy, Barry Staats, Ron Heath, Penny Lane, Joyce Baltic, Mike Kelly, Foodfair, Big Lots and the excellent news coverage by Greg Matics.
As for the lighting of the over 5,000 candles, we don’t know who everyone is, but it would not be possible without you.
The proceeds from this yearly event go to a scholarship awarded to a Ravenswood High School senior each year, and to help other youth in the community.
We are so appreciative of the community support, and hope to see you all back next year.
