Ravenswood Grade School was closed earlier this week due to a problem with gas lines. Superintendent of Schools Blaine Hess issued the following statement to parents concerning the problem.
On Monday, January 7, 2013, it was necessary to dismiss students from school at Ravenswood Grade School. This action was necessary due to a problem with the gas line at the school that impacted the ability to heat the school. The school remains closed on Tuesday, January 8, and the gas line will be replaced over the course of the next few days.
“While replacement of the gas line is underway, temporary arrangements have been made to resume classes for the students at Ravenswood Grade School. Classes for the school resumed for students on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at normal opening and dismissal times at the following Ravenswood locations:
• 3rd Grade Students – First Baptist Church, Ann Street
• 4th Grade Students – Calvary Baptist Church, Henry Street
• 5th Grade Students – Praise Cathedral, Elwood Street
“Students riding the school bus will ride the same bus as usual with the pick-up and drop-off times from home remaining the same. All buses will take students to the Ravenswood High School auditorium. Students will be transported from there to their respective locations. All parents dropping students off should avoid Ravenswood High School and take their student to their church location(s). Parents dropping students off at the church location(s) should approach the area with extreme caution and drop students off in areas supervised by the school staff.
“Student materials will be moved from your child’s classroom at the school to the proper classroom space at the designated location. Breakfast and lunch will be provided by the Jackson County Schools Food Service Staff at each location.
“During the school day, communication with the school can be made by calling the school office at (304) 273-5391. Messages and other communications will be forwarded to the appropriate site. If it is necessary for you to sign your child out of school during the school day, you should pick them up at the church designated for their grade level.
“We are hopeful that the replacement of the gas line can be accomplished and tested for operation in the next few days. Ravenswood Grade School will be reopened as soon as possible. Jackson County Schools appreciates the hospitality and support from local churches that are hosting our students and providing us with a location to provide educational services. Your cooperation and patience during this time will be greatly appreciated.
If you have questions or concerns, please contact the school at 304-273-5391 or Rhonda Jelich, director of elementary education, at 304-372-7300.”
