  • Youell cans 23, but Devilettes still fall

  • ST. MARYS – Devilette senior Taylor Youell poured in a game-high 23 points including six treys, but it wasn't enough as unbeaten St. Marys (9-0) dropped Ravenswood to 6-5 on the season with a 71-58 win in Pleasants County Saturday.
    The Blue Devils (7-0 LKC North) jumped out to a 18-10 first quarter lead and added a 14-12 second quarter advantage for a 32-22 margin at the half. St. Marys outscored Ravenswood 19-14 in the third quarter, before the Devilettes eked out a 22-20 scoring advantage in the final eight minutes.
    Hailey Miller added 13 points for Ravenswood, Hannah Murray eight, Kayla Scritchfield six and Melonna Carmichael and Taylor Treadway four each.
    For St. Marys, Audra Clark led the way with 15 points. Mikaela Britton and Kendra Walker added 13 each and Abbi Fetty 12. Britton, Fetty and Dani Moore hit one trey each.
    St. Marys shot 45% (30 of 66) from the floor to Ravenswood's 37% (22 of 60).
    Walker grabbed a dozen of the Blue Devils' 38 rebounds. Hailey Miller and Taylor Treadway grabbed four boards each among Ravenswood's 21.
    Carmichael dished off 11 assists for the Devilettes and notched four steals. Treadway and Murray chipped in a pair of swipes each.
    In the jayvee preliminary, St. Marys won 43-33. Teri Ashworth scored 19 for the Blue Devils. Freshman Taylor Love knocked down a game-high 24 points for the Devilettes.
    Ravenswood (6-5) hosts Webster County Saturday at 5:45 p.m.
