  • HUNTINGTON – All-State guard Arick Nicks went off for 28 points in only three quarters of play to carry the Highlanders of Huntington to a 78-39 drubbing of the Ripley boys basketball team on Friday night in Huntington.
There wasn't much positive happening for Ripley in this contest after the 3-2 lead the Vikings held after a 3-point bucket from Ripley point guard Jacob Haynes at the 7:06 mark in the opening quarter.
Nicks shot a blistering 80 percent (8-of-10) from the floor and canned 85 percent from the foul line (11-of-13). The Vikes had no defensive answer for the athletic Highlander.
With a 42-15 lead at the half and a 52-26 pad after three, Huntington called off the dogs by rotating their jayvee players into the game in the final period.
Ripley shot only 29 percent from the floor and dished out only five assists in the game. The Vikings hit a solid 17-of-23 foul shots for a 74 percent clip. The blue crew turned the ball over 25 times, a season high.
The Vikings, a perimeter shooting team, has had trouble all season getting the ball into the basket.
Ripley is shooting at a 37 percent rate from the field this season and 27 percent from trey. Ripley was led by Haynes with 11 points, Casy Smith had eight, Drew Harpold seven, Kade Harrison five, Luke Layhew four while Cody Sanders and Austin Parsons scored two each for the boys in blue.
