  • Devilettes romp Raiders on the road, 69-31

  • SPENCER – Coach Cara Williams' Ravenswood Red Devilettes opened on fire Monday night at Roane County, torching the host Lady Raiders 19-9 in the opening quarter, and rolled to a 69-31 victory—their second straight win (2-0) of the early season.
    The Devilettes added a 13-2 second quarter scoring advantage for a whopping 32-11 lead at the half. Ravenswood tacked on a 19-7 scoring outburst in the third quarter and capped the night with a 18-13 points advantage in the final eight minutes.
    Senior Devilette Hannah Murray led all scorers with 18 points. Fellow seniors Taylor Youell and Melonna Carmichael added 12 points each. Hailey Miller chipped in 10, Taylor Love five, Kayla Scritchfield and Kindsey Torris four each, Taylor Treadway three and Mariah Jackson one. Ravenswood shot just 9-for-20 from the free throw line.
    Carmichael (2), Murray and Love canned treys. Murray grabbed eight rebounds and blocked eight shots. Miller grabbed seven rebounds, dished off dive assists and notched three steals. Youell had six swipes. Carmichael dished off four assists and had four steals.
    For the Raiders, Destinee Starcher was the top scorer with eight points. Kasey Blosser, Cassidy Taylor and Kipra Rhodes added four each; and Becky Frye, Micky Rhodes and Emily Higginbotham three each. Frye and Higginbotham one trey each. Roane made five of 12 free throws.Roane slipped to 0-2.
    Roane County won the jayvee preliminary, 31-29.
    Ravenswood (2-0) hosts Doddridge County tonight (Thursday) in a jayvee/varsity doubledribbler at 6 p.m./7:30 p.m.
