  • RIPLEY - Four seniors, a junior and a sophomore earned all MSAC pigskin honors earlier this week as the Mountain State Athletic Conference released it's 2012 all conference recipients.
Landing on the first team defense was senior Daryl Hicks. The 6-0 300 pound nose-guard accumulated 51 tackles and three sacks on the season.
Senior center Andy Mellert was selected to the second team.
The hard-nosed center was the leader for Ripley on the offensive line and is at the top of his class academically.
Senior Justin Hinzman and junior Preston Martin garnered second team selections.
They were first and second on the Viking defensive squad in stops this season.
Hinzman, a rugged safety, led the defense in tackles with 96 with four pass deflections and three interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown.
Preston Martin had 89 tackles in 2012 while getting 19 in a single game. Martin was a leader on defense and has a distinct nose for the ball.
Senior Quaseem Fields and super sophomore Jake martin received honorable mention selections.
Fields averaged 21.4 yards per kick return and 9.4 yards per punt return in 2012. The elusive athlete was also a major contributor on offense and defense. He was tied with Hinzman for the team lead in interceptions (3) and returned one for a score.
Martin rolled up over 1200 all purpose yards passing, running and on special teams.
The MSAC player of the year was George Washington's Ryan Switzer and the coach of the year was former Ravenswood Red Devil and current Cabell Midland coach Luke Salmons.
