RAVENSWOOD - Red Devilette senior Taylor Youell has signed a tennis scholarship offer from the University of Charleston.

"It's wonderful to see a young lady who is very talented, coachable, and an extremely hard worker be rewarded for her dedication," said veteran coach Butch Varney. "During the summer, she will come to the courts and work for two hours plus on different parts of her game with Dave Crow, who is one of our local tennis instructors, and then go off and practice basketball."

Youell has made her mark in tennis at Ravenswood High School for the past three years.

Accomplishments she has achieved so far during her tenure include:
• 31-5 Singles record
• 33-11 Doubles record
• State Runner-up at the #3 Singles Position
• State Final 4 at the #2 Singles Position
• Regional Champion at #1 and #2 Doubles
• Regional Champion at #3 Singles
• Regional Runner-up at #2 Singles
• State Final 8 at #1 Doubles
• State Final 4 at #2 Doubles

"As Taylor begins her senior year, we expect even bigger things as her leadership by being a captain again will help our other players both on and off the court," said Varney.

"This will continue to help her as her life goal is to become an elementary teacher. Already, she volunteers her time at Ravenswood Grade School assisting Debbie Kelps in the third grade. And the kids just love her as they cheer for her in both basketball and tennis.

"Taylor has a wonderful future ahead of her and Coach (Jim) Frazier and I both wish her much success in her collegiate career."
