  • Santa promises to have a full day of holiday festivities on Saturday, Dec. 1 as Main Street Ripley has planned an “All-American Christmas” event including a parade, children’s activities and special shopping promotion. “It’s going to be a busy full day in town,” said Paula Casto, program director. “Ripley will have something for everyone on Saturday.” Leading the 10 a.m. parade will be honorary grand marshal Fred Batten, the former long-time director of the Ripley High School Marching Band. The parade route will proceed from Church Street (Route 21) to North Street at the library. It will turn on Maple Street at the sheriff’s department and proceed to Main Street by the courthouse. It will conclude by turning on South Court Street to the municipal parking lot. To participate in the parade, call 372-1637 or visit the Main Street Ripley office at Carson Corner this week. Parade day lineup will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday at Ripley High. Immediately following the parade, spectators will proceed to the Court Street side of the courthouse for the “Snowball Drop.” Those attending will be eligible for discounts from Ripley merchants as explained on the snowballs (ping pong balls) that will be dropped from the courthouse balcony. Santa will be at the gazebo at 11:30 a.m. to visit with the kids. Parents may then register their children at the Alpine Theatre for the 12:30 p.m. magic show and Christmas movie. While the kids are being entertained, the adults will have a great opportunity to “Rally Round Ripley Retailers.” The following merchants will be participating a special merchant open house event: Casto’s Department Store, Country Scents and Gifts, Second Time Around, Vail Furniture, Evergreen Florist & Christian Supplies, Reta’s Antiques, Jeweler’s Touch, The Outlet Connection, Beyond Bargains, Golddiggers Quality Jewelry, Willow’s Embrace, Main Street Barber Shop, Community Food Pantry, Jackson General Hospital Gift Shop, Frugal Frog, Fruth Pharmacy, Moore’s Tractor Sales, Gift of Light, Skeeber’s Kettle Corn, The Downtowner and Athletic Outfitters. Topping off the festive day will be a Christmas tree lighting ceremony complete with carols at 6:30 p.m. at the Ripley Municipal Building.
