RIPLEY - Ripley Lady Viking volleyball standout Kaitlyn Weaver has been named to the AAA special honorable mention all-state squad for 2012.
The athletic sophomore was a leader on a squad that relied on underclassmen this season. Weaver was also named to the Mountain State Athletic Conference second team earlier this month and during the season was selected to all tournament teams in Saint Albans and Buffalo.
"I am proud of all of these girls for fighting all year and never giving up. A big part of that was Kaitlyn. She worked hard in the off-season and played travel ball, which really helped develop her skills. She is the type of player that can play nearly anywhere because of the effort she gives, her skill set and her natural athletic ability. She loves the game and is a joy to coach," said head coach Corby Stalnaker on Monday evening.
Another Weaver, Cabell Midland's Cassie Weaver was named as captain of the Class AAA all-state team that was released this week by the West Virginia Sportswriters Association.
The Lady Vikings finished (9-33-5). It was a season to gain valuable playing time for a young team. Virtually the whole squad will return in 2013.
