  • KNOXVILLE - The K.C. Colts, comprised of all-star selections from youth football teams in Ripley, Poca, Sissonville and Kanawha City, broght home the "Battle of Rocky Top" championship trophy on November 18 in Knoxville Tennessee. The competition consisted of teams from Illinois, Indiana, Alabama and Tennessee among others.
Ripley was represented by four members of the Ripley C-Team. Luke Miller, Evan Anderson, Kaleb Lawrence and Austin Litton were on the all-star roster.
The Colts won tournament games by scores of 24-0, 46-0 and 40-0 on their way to the championship game in which they won, 26-0.
It was the first time that a team and plowed through the tournament, not allowing a point.
Luke Miller played tailback and scored seven total touchdowns. He played cornerback for the defense. Evan Anderson, the Ripley quarterback, played outside linebacker and netted six sacks in the tourney.
Kaleb Lawrence, the Ripley tailback, played defense as well while getting six sacks of his own. Lawrence and Anderson led their team in tackles for a loss. Austin Litton played on the offensive and defensive lines. He had a stellar day blocking and stuffing the run up the middle for the Colt defense. Ripley C-Team head coach Mike Lawrence coached the defense for the Colts and was proud of what the boys from Ripley accomplished.
"The Battle in Rocky Top is a huge tournament with a lot of teams from all over the country. To see these four kids that I have coached for three years play the way they did was special to see. I am so proud of these guys. They all played on the defense that didn't allow a score all weekend. Ripley was represented by these guys in a big way."
The Colts have been asked to participate in a tournament that will take place in Richmond Virginia on December 15. If the team accepts the invitation, Jackson Newspapers will bring the story to you.
