RAVENSWOOD – The 2012 football season didn't turn out the way the Red Devils hoped. Coach Mick Price's Devils opened with consecutive road wins, but then went on a eight-game losing streak. During the season, the Devils scored 225 points (22.5 per game) while allowing 343 (34.3 per game).
Despite a 2-8 record forth 2012 football season, Ravenswood's Red Devils had their share of top quality individual performers in 2012.
Leading the way were "Co-Offensive Devils of the Year" junior Devon Crews and sophomore Rhys Jelich.
Crews led the Red Devils' 2,413-yard rushing attack with 153 carries for 947 yards (6.19 yards per carry) and 14 touchdowns. Jelich carried 158 times for 917 yards (5.8 ypc) with six touchdowns.
Junior Heath Burgess added 50 carries for 201 yards (4.02 ypc) with three TDs; Connor Jelich, 49 carries for 184 yards (3.76 ypc) with one TD. Ben Johnson, Patrick Watson and Austin Roub added one rushing TD each.
Burgess topped Ravenswood's passing game by completing 62 of 163 passes (38%) for 678 yards with four TDs and 12 interceptions.
Rhys Jelich was the top receiver with 17 catches for 208 yards (12.2 yards per catch) with one TD. Crews added 14 catches for 125 yards (8.9 ypc); Thomas Sturm, 10 catches for 108 yards (10.8 ypc); Dylan Radabaugh, four catches for 85 yards (21.3 ypc) with one TD; Patrick Watson, five catches for 61 yards (12.2 ypc) with one TD; Connor Jelich, six catches for 32 yards (5.3 ypc); Ben Johnson, three catches for 24 yards (8.0 ypc) with one TD; Drake McDowell, two catches for 26 yards (13 ypc); and Nathan Cunningham, one catch for nine yards.
Rhys Jelich returned six punts for 56 yards (9 yards per return); Crews returned three punts for six yards; and Burgess, one for 22 yards.
Special Teams Player of the Year senior Mason Carte kicked off 25 times for 1,029 yards (41 yards per kickoff). He connected on 21 of 24 PAT kicks and drilled an 43-yard field goal. Nathan Cunningham kicked off 18 times for 653 yards (36 yards per kickoff), punted 24 times for 754 yards (31 yards per punt average) and kicked a 42-yard field goal.
Ravenswood racked up 160 first downs (116 via rush, 30 via pass and 14 via penalty) and drew 63 flags for 557 penalty yards.
Rhys Jelich returned 21 kickoffs for 414 yards (20 yards per return); Crews, 10 for 254 yards (25 yards per return) with one TD; Ben Johnson, five for 74 yards (15 yards per return); Dylan Radabaugh, three for 38 yards (13 yards per return); Drake McDowell, three for 18 yards (four yards per return); and Preston Humphries, one for 10 yards.
Opponents rushed for 2,444 yards on 412 carries (5.9 ypc) with 27 TDs and passed for 1,034 yards (56 of 105 passes -53%) with 14 TDs and four interceptions. Opponents racked up 149 first downs (102 via rush, 39 via pass and eight via penalty) and drew 68 flags for 563 penalty yards.
According to Jackson Newspapers statistics, Defensive Devil of the Year Brad Titus totaled 125 tackles with two fumble recoveries. Defensive Lineman of the Year Connor Jelich collected 54 tackles and fumble recovery plus delivered the hit of the year versus Ripley; Breakout Player of the Year Donavyn Estep, 47 tackles (three TFL, three sacks); Rhys Jelich, 44 tackles (two fumble recoveries); Heath Burgess, 40 tackles, two interceptions, five pass breakups; Matt Peery, 33 tackles and a PBU; Devon Crews, 28 tackles, two interceptions; Ben Johnson, 27 tackles, two PBUs, fumble recovery; Billy Knicely, 26 tackles; Dillon Gandee 24 tackles and a fumble recovery; Trey Hatcher and Thomas Sturm (PBU), 19 tackles each; Dylan Radabaugh, 16 tackles; Nathan Cunningham, 14 tackles (two sacks); Patrick Watson, 11 tackles and fumbler recovery; Drake McDowell, nine tackles and two PBUs; and 16 additional players with less than nine tackles each. The Devils intercepted four passes, broke up 11 passes and recovered 10 fumbles.
