Other big stories coming out of Election Day were two states legalizing marijuana, two states approving gay marriage and California approving a tax on the rich. California voters passed a measure to charge different tax rates depending on how much money people make. The richest people in the state will pay the most in taxes. In Maine and Maryland, voters approved same-sex marriage, the first times such measures were passed by popular vote. And in Washington state and Colorado, voters legalized recreational marijuana – but the Drug Enforcement Administration on Wednesday reminded the states that it was still illegal on the federal level.
