With Thanksgiving and Christmas nearing and many local servicemen and women on deployment defending our country, Troop Link will be collecting care packages items to be shipped to those overseas in combat/war stricken areas.
Donations can be dropped off in collections boxes placed at Ripley and Ravenswood libraries. We will meet Tuesday November 13 at 6:00 PM to prepare Thanksgiving packages and for our troops to received their December packages in time for Christmas we must prepare them on December 4 at 6 PM.
Donations are needed by day before packing date and all prepared care packages will be mailed the following day to be received in time for the holiday. On October 8th, Troop Link volunteers prepared 36 care packages.
Items needed each month are:
Micro ready foods in bowls: Chef Boyardee,Hormel.Delmontes spaghetti, beef stew, chili, roast beef with potatoes, turkey with dressing, macaroni n cheese, cup of soups or any microwave foods.
snack food: cookies, Lil Debbie cakes, rice krispies treats, cereal bars,trail mix, nuts, flavored cracker, pringles, pretzels, chips, cans of chip dip, beef jerky, slim jims, peperoni, cans or plastic bottles of fruit drinks, cans of Yoo-Hoo chocolate drinks, liter bottle of soft drinks, water flavorings, hot cocoa, sweetened tea, coffee (ground or instant), flavored coffee creamer, chewing gum, candy bars, hard candy.
hygiene items: shampoo, liquid body bath, face wash, moisturizer, body lotion, shaving cream, razors, after shave, deodorant, body lotion, foot powder, athletes foot cream, Q-tips, feminine hygiene items body sprays, deodorant, body lotions, body wash, bath sponges, shampoos
Misc: Crew socks (black or white), brown t-shirts, bath towels, wash clothes, twin fitted sheet, laundry detergent (small boxes), dryer sheets, cough drops, vitamins, cold medicines, pain reliever, tissues, card games, small board games, current magazines sports/hunting/fishing, letters and cards of encouragement.
Christmas ideas: Christmas cards, DVD Christmas movies, Cd's of Christmas music, stockings, small strands of Christmas lights, ornaments (plastic/wooden), hickory farm beef sticks and cheese, candy canes, any kind of Christmas chocolate and candies, cookies, fudge, popcorn tins.
