  • CHARLESTON - It is always tough when you come so far and it's just not quite enough. Ripley's boys soccer team experienced this on a warm evening at Schoenbaum Soccer Stadium in Coonskin Park Monday evening.
The disappointment came in the form of a 3-2 Class AAA Region three Section one double overtime loss to the Riverside Warriors.
The Warriors were handed an indirect free kick 20 yards from the goal on a Ripley dangerous-play penalty.
Cameron Norris, who netted two goals in the game, connected with Riverside forward Dylan Chapman for the game-winning header.
The Vikings needed a win to keep playing. Their season ends at (2-17-1).
Riverside (6-10-2) will advance after narrowly escaping with the victory.
Head coach Tim Ross knows that the future is bright for his young squad with many key players returning in 2013.
"I would really like to thank our seniors Sammy Shaver, Alex Espino, Cody Sanders, Michael Bradley and Roberto Beto.
The team as a whole has stepped up and really learned the game and applied it on the field. I have had so many coaches comment on this after games with senior laden teams that we have faced this season.
The loss was tough on them, especially with a goal called back but they never backed down and applied good technical skills. That is what a coach wants to see. I am very proud of this team," said Ross after the game.
