  • Big Blacks run, pass past Ravenswood, 45-7

  • RAVENSWOOD – Pt. Pleasant balanced the running of Tylun Campbell and Marquez Griffin with the passing of Aden Yates to hand host Ravenswood their fifth straight defeat, 45-7, Friday night at Flinn Field.
    Again, missed tackles and poor offensive line and defensive backfield play doomed the Red Devils.
    Point grabbed momentum early as Marques Griffin scored on a 56-yard run to complete a one-play scoring drive. Collin peal booted the PAT and the Big Blacks led 7-0.
    Peal added a 22-yard field goal to cap a nine-play, 74-yard drive with 7:32 left in the first half.
    Ravenswood trimmed the 10-o disadvantage to 10-7 with 4:01 left in the half on a 12-yard run by junior Devon Crews. Crews' scoring jaunt capped an eight-play, 63-yard march. Mason Carte booted the PAT.
    However, Point answered quickly, as moving 51 yards in just four plays to score. Griffin got the capping TD on a 22-yard pass from Aden Yates. Pel's PAT kick pushed the Big Blacks' advantage back to 10 at 17-7 with 1:05 left in the half.
    The second half was all Pt. Pleasant as the Big Blacks scored 28 unanswered points.
    Andrew Williamson reeled in a 21-yard TD pass from Yates to cap a seven-play, 65-yard drive with 9:34 left in the third quarter.
    Chase Walton scored on a five-yard run with 33.8 seconds left in the third quarter to cap a 14-play, 55-yard march.
    Ravenswood's lone scoring threat of the second half was reversed when Marquis Griffin intercepted a Heath Burgess pass and returned it 97 yards to the Red Devil one yard line.
    Teran Barnitz scored on a one-yard run two plays later.
    Tylun Campbell capped the scoring with a `14-yard run to end a one-play drive set up by a Levi Russell fumble recovery.
    On the night, Rhys Jelich led the Ravenswood rushing attack with nine carries for 47 yards.
    Devon Crews added 11 carries for 30 yards and a TD. Heath Burgess carried three times for negative 11 yards.
    Burgess completed 12 of 22 passes for 64 yards with two interceptions. Rhys Jelich was the top receiver with six catches for 28 yards.
    Thomas Sturm had tweo catches for 17 yards; Devon Crews three catches for a net six yards; and Connor Jelich one catch for eight yards. Ravenswood had 10 first downs (five via rush, three via pass and two via penalty), and drew two flags for 25 penalty yards. Tylun Campbell led Pt. Pleaant's ground attack with 13 carries for 104 yards. Marquis Griffin added 12 carries for 87 yards.
    Yates completed 13 of 16 passes for 181 yards and three TDs.
    Point rolled up 18 first downs and drew six flags for 60 penalty yards.
    Mason Carte kicked off twice for 54 yards. Nathan Cunningham punted six times for 154 yards. Rhys Jelich had four kickoff returns for 62 yards and Crews one for 14 yards.

Connor Jelich added seven tackles and a sack; Rhys Jleich seven tackles; Heath Burgess, six tackles and two pass breakups; Matt Peery, Dillon Gandee, Donavyn Estep and Thomas Sturm, five tackles each; Trey Hatcher, four tackles; Devon Crews and Drake McDowell, three tackles each; Ben Johnson, Willie Parsons and Billy Knicely, two tackles each; #56, #72, #53, one tackle each; and #14 recovered a fumble.
    Ravenswood (2-5) travels to Clay County Friday to take on the Panthers.
