Donald Blaine Thornton, 58, of Denver, CO, formerly of Evans, WV, died October 3, 2012, following an extended illness.
He was born May 12, 1954, a son of Hazel Sayre, of Evans, and the late Alfred Thornton.
He was a 1972 graduate of Ripley High School where he received many academic awards. He was named to Who's Who among High School students, and was a National Merit Scholarship finalist.
He moved to Columbus, OH shortly after graduation and worked his way through school earning multiple engineering degrees from Ohio State University.
Donald was stricken with a debilitating form of arthritis while still in his 20's and endured the pain to work in his field with many different companies, both in Columbus and Denver.
Don moved to Denver in 1990, for the climate that helped his condition, and he would spend time in the mountains with his dogs enjoying the beauty of God's creation.
In addition to his mother, other survivors include his longtime friend, Becky Hascall and her daughter, Michaela, both of Denver; sister, Deborah Thornton of Leroy; brother, Kevin Thornton and his wife Janet of Ravenswood; nieces, Jacqualin Thornton of Hurricane, and Jessica Burch of Millwood, and two great nieces, Jamie and Jasmine Naylor of Millwood.
As per his wishes he will be cremated and his ashes, along with those of his dogs, will be put in a special place in the Rocky Mountains. The family will hold a service in his memory at a later date. Casto Funeral Home, Evans, WV, is assisting the family.
