FALLING ROCK – Coach Todd Murray's Ravenswood Red Devils, now 9-3-1 and ranked No. 5 in Class AA/A, snapped a two-game losing skid with a 3-0 shut-out of host Herbert Hoover at last week at Falling Rock.

Despite playing swamp-like conditions, the Devils scored three first-half goals. Andrew Ely scored his first goal of the season, after Nate Schiefer collided with the Hoover goal keeper and the ball squirted free to the charging Ely.

Ely scored the second goal off a corner kick by Pat Berry. Ely headed the ball into the goal by flying above the Hoover defenders.

Exchange student Tim Eggers dribbled past a Huskie defender and fed the ball to Mason Carte who blasted a 20-yard shot into the upper 90 of the goal.

Schiefer, Berry and Eggers had assists in the game.

Ravenswood defeated Parkersburg Catholic on the road Thursday, 3-1.

Nic Ballard scored the first goal by crashing on his own shot. The ball ricocheted off the post and Ballard tackled it into the net.

Mason Carte ripped a long shot which bounced off the post to Andrew Ely who put the ball back toward the net. Pat Berry headed it into the net for the score.

Coach Murray said the final goal for his Devils is one for the best he's seen from his team. It involved multiple give-and-gos and overlaps by Nate Schiefer, Nic Ballard and Dalton Gandee.

The trio moved the ball down the sideline from deep in Ravenswood territory.

Ballard eventually disuhed the ball to Gandee running down the wing. Gandee ripped a high, bending shot from the sideline that curved over the Catholic keeper's hands and into the far corner of the net.

The Devils return to action September 27 by hosting Sissonville at Eastwood.
