The dog, Melody, who ARF took to the Jackson County Airport to Pilot and Paws who picked up the dog and her puppies made it to their new residence. Meldofy had been shot and had a compound fracture may get an operation to hopefully alleviate the pain she is feeling from the injuries.
Ann Jordan stated that Even with the pain, she is a very loving and kissy-kissy kind of dog.
Said Jordan, “All the puppies were adopted except the little female runt, I renamed Pippy. The only reason the runt wasn’t adopted yet is because she is being treated for an injury to one of her back toes that is black around it and raised.”
Pilots n Paws is a website that was founded by two pilots who were passionate about rescuing shelter animals in need. Pilots and plane owners volunteer their time, planes, and gas to transport animals from point A to point B. Shelters/Rescues/Fosters who want to save animals that would otherwise be euthanized and that do not do well on a ground transport, and/or would otherwise have to travel long distances, will post a transport request on the website. Pilots who are available or near the locations in need will respond.
Said Jordan, “These very generous pilots are my own personal heros. They go that extra mile and some have even traveled in between thunderstorms, and on holidays risking their lives in order to save even one dog from being euthanized. Some of them have even overnited dogs that were stuck en route to us. It has and will continue to be my pleasure to work with them all.”
Animal Rescue Foundation in Beacon, NY Is 100% volunteer and no-kill.
Explained Jordan, “Nobody here gets paid a dime and we’re here every day of the year including all holidays, blizzards, etc. We are a small shelter with a small crew of dedicated volunteers and rely solely on donations for day-to-day expenses. We have been rescuing dogs by plane from mostly the south since 2009 and by car transports a few years before 2009.”
Car transports are still a mode of transportation.
Said, Jordan, “We only request Pilots n Paws flights for very young pups and mamas, pregnant dogs, and emergencies. We have had 36 rescues by Pilots n Paws. Amount of animals rescued by Pilots n Paws flights: 6 kittens, 1 cat, 157 dogs on flight (and 20 born at our shelter within a week or two of arrival). TOTAL: 184 animals saved.
