  • RIPLEY – Ravenswood had a pair of runners finish in the Top 10 of the girls division in Saturday's Covered Bridge Invitational at Cedar Lakes. The performances by Hailey Miller and Taylor Treadway helped lead the Devilettes to a runner-up finish.
The Devilettes scored 64 points in the meet to follow champion Parkersburg's 26. GW placed third behind Ravenswood with 81. St. Marys was fourth with 93. Ripley (see story elsewhere on sports pages) was fifth with 105. Charleston Catholic was sixth with 150 and Wirt County finished with 168.
Miller was third in the race with a time of 20:48.60, finishing behind Pakersburg's Kaylee Williams (20:19.60) and Ripley's Ali Cunningham (20:27.04).
"I knew it was a hard course, but I really like it," Miller told Jackson Newspapers. "I tried to stay with the top racers the whole way."
Of his talented sophomore, Ravenswood coach Bryan Canterbury said. "This was Hailey's 14th varsity race and she hasn't been in the Top 10 only twice.
"The girls had a nice comeback race led by Hailey who ran another strong race."
Treadway was ninth with a time of 22:03.56.
Also for Ravenswood, Hannah Murray was 15th (22:52.35), Taylor Love was 21st (23:30.44), Mariah Currey placed 35th (24:58.73) and Larissa Hayman was 63rd (27:56.49).
"Taylor Love also had her best race of the season. The girls are staring to learn how to battle during the race as we prepare for the final month of the year."
The Red Devil boys were sixth overall with 152 points.
Luke Sadecky led the way with a 21st place finish in a time of 18:30.22. Will Schindler was 24th (18:42.28), Chase Jarrell came in 37th (19:30.68), Jon Hayman was 45th (20:01.05), Adam Scritchfield finished 67th overall (21:55.31) and Jon Watkins was 83rd (23:35.80).
"The boys continue to battle depth problems, but we are improving," Canterbury said.
