  • Ethel Irene Smith, 75, of Ravenswood, WV, passed away September 2, 2012, at Eldercare of Ripley.
    She was born October 19, 1936, in Charleston, WV, a daughter of the late Oshel Ray and Freda Irene (Barney) Casto. Her husband of 52 years, Carroll Lee Smith, also preceded her in death.
    She was a cook, and was formerly employed by Ben’s Bakery, Daniel Boone Restaurant, and The Village Cafeteria. She also worked at the Ravenswood Care Center, Eldercare of Ripley, and retired from Ravenswood Village.
    Survivors include her daughters, Kimberly Dawn Smith (Bob) Blackhurst of Ravenswood, and Sherry Lynn Smith Hill of Ripley; grandchildren, Jared (Katlyn) Hill, and Megan Smith; great granddaughter, Emma Grace Hill; brothers, Robert Ray Casto, and Thurman Allen Casto, both of Given; sisters, Marjorie Cochran of Red House, Judy Weaver of Given and Katherine Sue Bradley of Evans, and her mother-in-law, Ruth Smith of Racine, OH.
    Services were  1 p.m. Wednesday, September 5, 2012, at Casto Funeral Home Chapel, Evans, WV, with the Rev. Gerald Sayre officiating. Burial followed  in Letart Falls Cemetery, Letart Falls, OH. Visitation were from noon until time of service on Wednesday, at the funeral home.
