Ripley High boasts one of the state’s best baseball traditions. Many of those players of years gone by will be making a return to scene of their glory years as the former Vikings are planning an alumni softball event on Saturday, July 21.
Former players will be divided into four teams for the softball action at Viking Park. The teams will be assigned to teams based on their year of graduation. Teams will be 1989 and earlier grads (odd years vs. even years) and 1990-2012 grads (odd years vs. even years).
“We’re already getting a lot of interest in this,” said Coach Shane Casto. “This is going to be a fun time to meet up with teammates and raise funds for the baseball program. We have a great facility here and we want to make it even better.”
Participants must pre-register no later than Sunday, July 15 by calling Casto (304-440-0021), Frankie Cummings (304-531-9956), Mike Lawrence (304-531-5601) or Mike Ruben (304-532-4865).
Participation will be a minimum donation of $20, which includes a Viking Alumni game shirt. When calling to register, players should leave their name, year of graduation, phone number, email address (if available) and shirt size.
The day’s activities will include a baseball homerun derby hitting contest that is open to anyone for $10. Fans will be admitted to the games at no charge. Concessions will be available.
In the event of bad weather, the rain date will be Sunday, July 22.
