Dorothy Pearl Backus 92 of Ripley passed away June 29, 2012 at Eldercare of WV at Ripley following a long illness.
She was born June 16, 1920 at Boone County, a daughter of the late James and Lessie Aliff Toler. She was a homemaker and a member of the Ripley Tabernacle Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Jennings David Backus; a son James “Jackie” Backus; sisters Daisy Nichols, Dora Lee Toler and Delphia Williams and a brother Donald R. Toler.
She is survived by a daughter Dorothy P. Williams and her husband Ray of Ripley; sons Jennings David Backus Jr. and his wife Vicki of Tullahoma, TN and James H. Backus of North Carolina; also survived by seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren and one great great grandson.
Funeral Service were on Monday, July 2, 2012 at the Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley. Pastors Mike Elder and Darrell Crouch officiated. Burial was in the Elk Hills Cemetery, Big Chimney, WV. Friends called Sunday at the Funeral Home.
