The Viking football squad hit the field Tuesday evening for a 7 on 7 scrimmage that included Capital High and Point Pleasant. Sissonville was on the bill but failed to make an appearance
. Each team donned helmets, jerseys and shorts. There was no physical contact (hitting) but lots of enthusiasm and aggressive defense.
Each team ran their offense (minus lineman) from the 35-yard line and the defenses executed scaled down versions of their sets.
Ripley looked sharp on both sides of the ball. The varsity defense came up with an interception and several tipped passes with Tyler Pittenger, Nathan Hall, Preston Martin and others making key plays among others.
The highlight of the scrimmage was a beautifully thrown pass by Viking quarterback Trevor Tucker to speedy receiver Quaseem Fields that resulted in a 35 yard touchdown.
Fields made one move after the catch and struck pay dirt by splitting the zone coverage of Point Pleasant. See more coverage and features on Viking gridders this summer in JN.
