  • The Mountain State Athletic conference released their All MSAC baseball team late last week. Two sluggers and two hurlers notched honors for the blue and white. All four are departing seniors from the program.
Alex Karst garnered first team honors as a pitcher. Karst (5-2) was Ripley’s No.1 all season and kept the Vikings in virtually every game he pitched.
Karst struck out 70 hitters in 54.1 innings.  His ERA was a miniscule 1.68.  Centerfielder Jamin Jones also garnered a first team selection. All Mr. Jones did in 2012 was hit .490 with 3 homeruns and 46 RBIs. Jones swiped 29 bases in 30 attempts and scored 34 runs for Ripley.
Hurler Heath Barnette garnered a second team selection. Barnette (5-2) fanned 71 batters in 64 innings and walked only 31 batters. Barnette finished with a microscopic 1.53 ERA.
Tyler Casto earned an  honorable mention selection. The versatile slugger  played all over the infield before settling in at shortstop. Casto hit .351 with four doubles, 13 RBIs and scored 25 runs for the Vikings. The player of the year is Korey Dunbar of Nitro High. Coach of the year is Brian Sutphin of Hurricane High.
