PARKERSBURG – To prepare himself for the next phase of his baseball career, Ripley’s Jonathon Murphy will be playing several games with the Parkersburg Post 15 American Legion team.
To prepare himself for the next phase of his baseball career, Ripley’s Jonathon Murphy will be playing several games with the Parkersburg Post 15 American Legion team. Murphy, who just graduated from Ripley High, is set to join the young Glenville State College baseball program in the 2012-13 academic year.
The Post 15 squad is stacked with an array of talent. Murphy is the lone player from Jackson County on the squad.
In his senior season, Murphy hit .250 for the Vikings. He drove in 12 runs and tied for a team-best two home runs. On the mound, Murphy pitched mostly in relief situations working 31.2 innings. He had a record of 1-1 with a 2.47 ERA.
The Post 15 team features players from Parkersburg High, Parkersburg South and Williamstown. In addition, there are four current college players on the roster – two from Fairmont State, one from Marietta College and one from WVU.
Post 15 will play the bulk of its home games at City Park’s Bennett Stump Field in Parkersburg. Parkersburg South’s Hank Greenburg Field will also be used. The schedule includes games with Meigs, OH, Clarksburg, St. Marys, Athens, OH, Moundsville, Cambridge, OH, Washington County, OH, Beckley, South Charleston, St. Clairsville, OH and Beverly/Lowell, OH.
The season started June 2 and will run through the beginning of August with the State Tournament in Wheeling.
