West Virginia Soccer Club teams recently competed in the WV Soccer State Championships in Beckley on May 19-20. All twelve teams it entered reached their individual age group final, and nine teams came away state champions: U12 Boys Lightning, U14 Boys Rowdies, U15 Boys Rowdies, U17 Boys Wizards, U18 Boys Titans, U13 Girls Rowdies Elite, U14 Girls Rowdies, U15 Girls Arsenal, and U17 Girls Rowdies. Three teams were also finalists: U12 Girls Academy, U13 Boys Rowdies, and U16 Boys Rowdies.
The nine winners will move on to represent WV at the Region 1 Championships in Lancaster, PA on June 29-July 2. WVSC teams have won 26 state championships in the last three years. “Our results in Beckley this year confirm that our coaching staff is doing a good job of following our player development program that has been set in place by our two Directors of Coaching”, said Phil Young, WVSC President.
“We just need to keep going and work on making our club as great as it can be and that starts for next year with our club tryouts on June 5 at Barboursville Park”.WVSC players come from all over the central WV area, from Bridgeport to Beckley and from Parkersburg through Charleston to Huntington. WVSC is a competitive travel soccer club located in Cross Lanes that currently fields teams from U10 through U18 boys and girls, and an Academy Program for U7 through U9.
