  • Two Ripley youths occupy roster spots for the 14U squad of the Huntington Hounds. The Hounds are a hand picked collection of West Virginia all-stars. The team also boasts 18U and 16U teams.
The Hounds will be traveling to Georgia, Ohio and North Carolina this summer to face some of the best US and international competition per age group.
The 14U season kicks off June 3 as the team hikes to Columbus Ohio to face USSSA NIT tourney where they will play five games in two days.
Chris Jordan manages the 14U squad that includes his son, Christopher. The younger Jordan will be a freshman on Ripley baseball coach Shane Casto’s squad next season.
Jordan hit .659 for coach Todd Layhew’s Ripley Middle School team in 2012. Ripley Middle finished undefeated and brought home the MVAC championship for the second year in a row.
Also on the roster is infielder Johnny Stepp. Stepp gained valuable experience as he started over half of Ripley High’s games at second base in 2012. Stepp hit a respectable .253 in his freshman season for the Vikings who finished 14-17.
Both Stepp and Jordan were members of the 2010 Ripley Little League team that made it to the semi-finals in Georgia.
In four scrimmage games last weekend, Jordan went 3-for-10 and Stepp was 3-for-8 for the Hounds as they split the series 2-2.
