Ravenswood had scoring chances early in the game and in the third quarter, but could not get into the end zone at Pt. Pleasant Friday night. In the fourth quarter, the wheels came off both offensively and defensively as No. 2-ranked Pt. Pleasant rolled up 20 points to put the finishing touches on a dominating 37-0 Homecoming win. It was the RedDevils’ second straight loss after a 5-0 start.
The Big Blacks scored on their first possession of the game, marching 61 yards in six plays. Jerrod Long capped the drive with a two-yard touchdown run. Joshua Parsons booted the PAT and Pt. Pleasant led 7-0 with 9:10 still to play in the first quarter.
Ravenswood nearly knotted the game off a turnover on Pt. Pleasant’s next possession when senior safety Zack Miller picked off a Eric Roberts pass inside the 15 yard line and weaved his way all the way for a touchdown. However, an illegal block in the back call well behind Martin nullified the TD.
Still, Ravenswood put together a 40-plus yard march to inside the Big Black 10 yard line. The Devils chose to go for it on fourth-and-two, but Jeremy Lawrence was tackled for a loss to end the threat.
Point capitalized on a Ravenswood turnover for its next TD, when Lawrence was stripped of the football after hauling in a Dustin DeRito pass and looking for yards after the catch. The Big Blacks recovered the fumble at the Ravenswood 46.
On the second play after the fumble recovery, Roberts hit Brandon Toler with a pass and Toler rambled 46 yards to score. Parsons’ PAT boot made it 14-0 in favor of the hosts with 4:15 left in the half.
Point wasn’t through, as they marched 56 yards in 11 plays to add a field goal. Parsons’ 21-yard kick split the uprights with 14.5 seconds left in the half to send the Big Blacks to the locker room at the break with a 17-0 lead.
Ravenswood came out inspired to open the second half and nearly pulled off a stunning onside kick to open play. The bounding ball was there for a Red Devil recovery, but no one got on it. A scramble ensued and although a Red Devil came up with the ball between a Big Black’s legs, the ball was ultimately awarded to Pt. Pleasant.
Still, the Red Devils stuffed Point on their opening series and then put together a march into Big Black territory. Brandon Cunningham’s 26-yard field goal attempt was wide right.
Again, the Red Devils held on defense and Dustin DeRito’s hard running  engineered a second drive deep into Big Black territory. Inside the five-yard line, Ravenswood went for it on a four-and-three and DeRito was stopped two yards short.
Pt. Pleasant then put together a back breaking 14-play, 96-yard scoring drive that carried into the fourth quarter. Roberts sneaked into the end zone from one yard out for the capping TD. Parsons kicked the PAT and Pt. Pleasant led 24-0 with 8:34 left in the game.
An interception at the Ravenswood 22 set up the next Pt. Pleasant score. Marquez Griffin bolted into the end zone on the first play of the possession for a TD. Parsons’ PAT attempt was blocked by Lawrence to make the score 30-0 with 7:11 left.
Point finished the game scoring with a two-play, 36-yard drive. Teran Barnitz scored the TD on a three-yard run. Parsons’ PAT kick made it 37-0 with 2:59 left.
