Beginning with the Tuesday, May 4 edition of The Jackson Herald, Jackson Newspapers will be implementing a new obituary policy.

Obituary Policy Change

Beginning with the Tuesday, May 4 edition of The Jackson Herald, Jackson Newspapers will implement the following obituary policy:

Death notices will continue to be published at no charge. A free death notice will only contain the name, age, town of the deceased, and date of death, as well as time of service, calling hours, and place of service, visitation and burial. No photo or other information will be used in a death notice. All other obituaries will be priced by size.  Photos will be an additional charge and will run at full column size in print and be included online at no additional charge. In-county funeral homes will be invoiced monthly. Out-of-County Funeral Home/Private party: Must be paid in advance. Private party obituaries require funeral home verification. All obituaries submitted by private parties are confirmed with the funeral home listed on the obituary prior to publication.  Obituaries will appear online at no additional charge, and will appear as they are printed in the newspaper. No obituary or death notice will appear online only. In order to reduce typographical errors, obituaries, death notices, and photos must be submitted electronically. If there is incorrect information supplied to us, we will bill for any subsequent additional publication of the full obituary information. If we incorrectly publish information supplied to us, we will rerun the obituary and charge for the correct publication only. Received obituaries/death notices will appear in the subsequent edition of Jackson Newspapers (either The Jackson Herald or Star News). If a party wishes to run the obit specifically in the Star or Herald, that must be specified when the obit is submitted. The Star-Herald Weekender will continue to run only death notices at no charge with complete obituaries/notices running in the subsequent edition of The Jackson Herald.
