William “Daris” Raines, 87, of Ripley went home to be with the Lord on April 21, 2010, at Jackson General Hospital following a long illness.

He was born April 26, 1922, at Kenna, son of the late Boyd and Hallie Ashby Raines. He was retired from the West Virginia Department of Highways and attended the Ripley Tabernacle Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, Daris was preceded in death by his devoted and loving wife of 60 plus years, Dortholean Bell Fields Raines; sisters Wanda McClain, Faye Rowley, Macie Cleek, and Hazel Rhodes; and brothers Doyle Raines and Roy Raines.

Surviving are sons Curtis “Buck” Raines of Ripley and Daris Woodrow Raines of Kenna; daughters Brenda Nutter of Kenna and Carolyn Sue Thomas of Ripley; brothers Keith Raines of Ripley and Dick Raines of Cottageville; sisters Janet Cogar of Kenna and Geraldine Anderson of Kenna; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren; and wife Betty Fox Raines.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 25, at Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley, with Pastor Mike Elder officiating. Interment followed at the Raines family cemetery, Stonelick Road, Kenna.

Friends called Saturday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
