Walter A. Thomas, 100, of Poca passed away Thursday, January 28, 2010, at Eldercare of West Virginia, Ripley, following a long illness.


Walter A. Thomas, 100, of Poca passed away Thursday, January 28, 2010, at Eldercare of West Virginia, Ripley, following a long illness.

He was born October 8, 1909, at Sissonville, a son of the late Elliot and Elvira Hinzman Thomas. He was a member of the Hickory Grove Church at Kenna and retired from Union Carbide with 20 years of service.

He is survived by his sons Glennis Thomas of Poca, who was preceded in death by his wife Eunice, David Thomas and his wife Diana of Elkview, and Allen Thomas and his wife Hilda of Poca; daughters Linda Hackney and Diane Raines and her husband Buck of Kenna; sister-in-law Jackie Shaffer of Sissonville; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He is also survived by special friend, Clara Harpold. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Olive Holmes Thomas, daughter-in-law Eunice Thomas, and son-in-law Larry Talbert.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 31, at the Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley, with Pastors David Fields and Dale Grady officiating. Burial will follow in the Floral Hills Garden of Memories, Pocatalico.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
