Carl Edward “Red” Blackshire, 80, of Ripley went to be with the Lord on Friday, January 22, 2010 after a short illness.

He was a Christian and a member of Dry Branch Missionary Baptist Church, Dry Branch, on Cabin Creek.

He was born 1929 in Pratt, then later moved to Dawes. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War. He also was stationed at Mac Diehl Air Force Base as an aircraft mechanic. While in Florida he met and married Martha Rose Tharp and moved to West Virginia. They resided in Dry Branch and owned/operated Blackshire Exxon. In 2003 they moved to Ripley where he resided until his death.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Russell Blackshire and mother, Louise Dickinson Mooney; wife, Martha Rose Blackshire; daughter, Patricia Louise Blackshire Hudnall; and brother, Charles Raymond Blackshire.

Left to cherish his memory are daughter, Tina Stanley and her husband, Gary of Stark, FL; sons, Mike Blackshire and his wife, Carol of Ripley, Charles David Blackshire and his wife, Mabel of Miami, FL; grandchildren, Michael Stanley of New Cumberland, PA, Chanda Stanley of Tampa, FL, Marcella Potter, Mary Jo Sams and David Martin all of Ripley, Robert Tyler Blackshire of Miami, FL, Cynthia Wilbourn of Huntsville, AL; and many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

The funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Monday, January 25, at Pryor Funeral Home, East Bank with Pastor Ronnie Massie officiating. Burial followed in Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens, Glasgow.

A gathering of family and friends will be two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
