Bert C. Hess 82, of Leon passed away at his home January 21, 2010.

He was born January 19, 1928, in Robertsburg, a son of the late George Franklin Hess and Lona Bell (Casto) Cain.  He was also preceded in death by son Bert Alfred Hess and sisters Mae, Margaret, Donna, and Joann.

He was a lifelong resident of Mason County, a farmer, and the former owner and operator of Hess Trading Post.  He was retired from Union Carbide-Putnam Mines, and was a member of the United Mineworkers of America.  He was a founding member of the Mountain Flower EMS, a member of the Civil Air Patrol, Point Pleasant, and was a member of the New Hope Chapel, Robertsburg.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Virginia (Miller) Hess; sons and their wives K.D. and Kelli Hess and Frank Nelson and Paula Hess, all of Leon; grandchildren James of Buffalo, Michael and Kaitlyn of Leon, and Lisa of Saginaw, MI; brothers Lee of London, OH, Henry and Charlie, both of Leon, Sam of Howell, MI, and George of Columbus, OH;  sisters Mary, Barbara, and Ernestine, all of Sidney, OH, Alice of Washington Court House, Lucille of Lake Jackson, TX, and Ruth of Cocoa, FL.

Service was held at 1 p.m. Sunday, January 24, at Casto Funeral Home, Evans, with the Rev. Verlin Hart and the Rev. Roger Ramey officiating.  Burial followed in the Forest Hill Cemetery, Flatrock.  Visitation was held from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Saturday, January 23, at the funeral home.
