Mary Irene Bailey Alderson, 86, of Ravenswood passed from this world on Saturday, January 23, 2010, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Huntington, WV.

Born December 23, 1923, on Hinkle Mountain in Richwood, WV, Mary was the daughter of Ab Mallard and Nancy Oma Kiser Bailey. She was preceded in death by her parents; her son John Henry Alderson II; brothers Orville, Kermit, Virgil, Estal, Albert, Roma, and Robert; and her sister Alice Bailey Postek.

Survivors include her husband of 63 years John H. Alderson of Ravenswood; daughter Ann Alderson Parker and her husband Gordon Parker of New Haven; granddaughter Laura Brinker, her husband Robert Brinker and great-granddaughter Mary Claire Brinker of Letart; granddaughter Kathryn Parker of Huntington; brother Edgel Bailey of Richwood; special cousin Hazel Ransberger of Richwood; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and their families.

Mary grew up in Richwood, and after marrying John, they moved to Summersville where they lived until 1958. She then moved to Ravenswood where she was a long-time employee of Cox’s Department Store as well as a homemaker, devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Mary was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Ravenswood, Eastern Star, and the Jackson General Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed camping with her family, traveling, watching the Atlanta Braves, the Wahama High School White Falcons, and the Marshall University Thundering Herd.

Visiting hours will be at the Roush Funeral Home, Ravenswood, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, January 26.

Funeral services will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Ravenswood at 11 a.m. on January 27. A second viewing a visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 27 at the H. C. White Funeral Home in Summersville from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Burial rights will be held at the Groves Cemetery in Summersville on January 28.
