Lillian Zulieka Cooney, 86, of Ravenswood departed this life July 26, 2009, at Eldercare of Ripley.

She was born December 27, 1922, in Sao Paulo, Brazil, a daughter of the late Charles Dennis and Hedwig (Lucas) Rushing.

She retired as an executive secretary from Mill Insurance Company, Chicago, IL.  She was a former secretary of the University of Indiana and was the base historian in Biloxi, MS, during WWII.  She was a member of the St. Matthew Catholic Church, Ravenswood, where she served as the vice-president of the Ladies Alter Guild.  She was also associated with the Holy Redeemer Church in Illinois and the St. John the Apostle Church in Bloomington, IN. 

Survivors include her son Daniel William Cooney of Chicago, IL; daughters Carol Felvey of IL, Patricia Miller of Leroy, Margaret Mundorff of MI, and Elizabeth Maraffino of CA; brother Charles Dennis Rushing of CA; 11 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband William E. Cooney and sister Dorothy Hammacher.

Mass of Christian Burial was held on Wednesday, July 29, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 600 Crooks Ave., Ravenswood, with Rev. Alfred Obiudu officiating.

Interment followed at Valhalla Memory Gardens, Bloomington, IN.  Arrangements were provided by Casto Funeral Home, Ravenswood.

In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to the American Diabetes Association, PO Box 238, Hurricane, WV 25526.
