Roane-Jackson Technical Center will be the site of the first of two hunter education courses planned for the county. The course will take place on March 12 and 13 from 5 to 8 p.m. and on Thursday, March 15, from 5 to 9 p.m. To register, call DNR at 304-420-4550. The class is limited to 30 participants.
The second class will be at the Sandyville Senior Center on April 14 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on April 15 from 1 to 5 p.m. This session is also limited to 30 students.
The ten-hour course is mandatory for certification. All students must attend all sessions.
In 1994, the West Virginia Legislature mandated that any person born after January 1, 1975, must present proof of certification from an approved hunter education course to the license agent every time a hunting license is purchased.
The course is open to the public and is free of charge. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by a parent, guardian, or responsible adult. Students must be ten years of age to receive permanent certification. Students who are eight or nine years of age will receive a temporary certification.
Class size is limited, so pre-registration is required. If you would like to register or if you need additional information, please contact the WVDNR District VI office by calling 304-420-4550 Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m.
