The staffs of Ripley Elementary, Middle, and High Schools are getting a little lighter as they compete in a Biggest Loser competition.

According to Appalachian Power, this weekend's winter storm knocked out power to over 900 homes in Jackson County.  As of 8:00 a.m. Sunday, power had been restored to the majority of those experiencing outages, while crews were still working to restore power to 266 customers. 

Gov. Joe Manchin has declared a statewide State of Emergency due to the winter storm that will impact West Virginia over the next two days.
